Rebeca Lane: Mixed-raced soul

In Spanish, the term "mestizo/a" refers to a mixed raced person, someone who acknowledges the diversity of the ancestors, instead of claiming only one ethnic origin. In opposition to the term "ladino" which denies the indigenous, african or asian roots, the mestiza can conceive herself as the inheritor of different traditions.

A singer from hip hop background, Rebeca Lane has been able to integrate different topics in her compositions. She is mostly concerned about feminism and women representation in a country where the femicide rate is so high. "Alma mestiza" or Mixed-raced soul is an example of her commitment in recognizing her Maya roots, as well as her feminist posture.
